The design—and the small tourist resort with marina—is named after the distinctive red rocks that are positioned at the tip of the village. In search of functions that break free from the extreme seasonal dependence on yacht and beach tourism, the proposed „Bagno Rosso“ aims to extend the site’s defining quality—swimming on a sandy beach amid the wild, rocky coastline of north-west Sardinia—into the spring and autumn seasons, when most tourists are driven away from the natural beach by the rough sea.

Structures are added to the previously hard-to-access, fronting rocks, transforming them into a new „beach.“ The necessary installations—access, pool, changing rooms, diving tower, and stairs—are casually arranged along a spanning pier. This creates a unique selling point for the seaside resort of Isola Rossa—a site-specific outdoor pool that fuses the wild character of the coast with the comfort of a bathing facility into an enticing experience.

Project collaboration with Johannes Mahl-Gebhard, landscape architect.
