At the TechCampus, opposite the university and about 3 km outside the historic center of Regensburg, we planned the new construction of a parking garage with 377 spaces. It was designed as a five-story system garage based on the d’Humy structural system, featuring 11 parking levels in one-way traffic: two underground, eight covered above ground, and one half of the roof used as an open parking level. A total of 50 charging points are designated for electric vehicles. Vehicle access to the garage is via the cul-de-sac on the eastern edge of the site. Pedestrian access is provided by a bridge directly from the central square of the campus.
The design was based on a regrettably rigid development plan, which imposed strict limitations regarding the location, dimensions, and height of the structure, as well as clear noise protection requirements—particularly in relation to the adjacent residential area to the north.

The noise protection requirements called for a largely closed façade, particularly on the north side facing the residential area. However, at least one-third of the façade needed to remain open for natural ventilation. We developed a custom façade system consisting of originally hot-dip galvanized elements with 1.05-meter edge lengths (later substituted with coated sheet metal elements by the contractor for manufacturing and scheduling reasons). These elements were used either as solid panels or coarse expanded metal, coated in various colors either fully or on the edges. The resulting visual language communicates specific architectural expressions while also subtly providing functional benefits such as acoustic and glare protection through different orientations. All four sides of the building have distinct visual identities, and the long sides change noticeably depending on the viewer’s angle—frontally or diagonally. The design of the outdoor areas was developed in accordance with the TechCampus Design Guidelines. The façade was conceived to create dynamic green visual effects from different perspectives, generating distinct „green spaces“ in interaction with the surrounding landscape design. The south façade was partially planted with climbing plants, while the entire north façade was fully greened.
The parking garage opened in December 2022.
