The uniformity of the aesthetic of the Messelinie U-2 Ost is achieved through the use of identical materials, while the recognizability of each station is ensured by its uniquely different raw construction geometry. Even the exposed structure of this station remains largely visible—or is at least reworked—and is painted in a deep, sensuous red with visible, hand-applied brushstrokes.
The ascetic interior finish concept—employing semi-finished aluminum components whose stony assembly does not conceal their industrial production character—emphasizes the miner-inspired, tube-shaped tunnel cross-section of the platform hall and the obliquely ascending escalator tunnels.
On the Spreng level, which simultaneously provides barrier-free access beneath the federal railway tracks to both halves of Trudering, artist Sophie Kaiser has created two large-format works. By drawing on the Bavarian customs of finger wrestling and arm wrestling, these works subtly establish a local connection through the seemingly tattooed skin of the figures depicted.
